Internal Clubs

The choir rehearses at lunchtime on Mondays. Anyone can join the choir – it is a fun club for all and usually has 50 or 60 members.

The choir likes to perform and usually has many opportunities throughout the year – harvest assembly, Christmas carol concert, entertaining at Christmas lunches (Bucks Vision  and St Andrew’s).

Some years we attend VIAM (Voice in a Million) at Wembley Arena. We also feature in the Orchestra Summer Concert.

The orchestra rehearses at lunchtime on Tuesdays. Any child who learns an instrument is welcome to come along – the music is arranged specially, and can be simplified for beginners or made more complicated for experts! Most children join in Year 4 though. The orchestra works through a variety of pieces over the year and puts on an annual concert during the summer term.

An orchestra of this type is unusual for a primary school – we are lucky to have almost a quarter of Key Stage 2 learning an instrument in school. Our children are also encouraged to try out the local music centre orchestras at Amersham and Iver Heath.

Ukulele Club

Ukulele Club happens at Wednesday lunchtime. It is open to anyone in Year 5 and 6, or to younger children who are ahead. All children in Year 4 learn the ukulele in their music lessons. The children learn new chords and we play and sing songs we like. We usually perform at the Carol Concert and also the Orchestra Summer Concert.

After School Cookery Club is run by Mrs Lines on Thursdays 3.15 – 4.30pm.

The children learn about safety and food hygiene in the kitchen, how to understand a recipe, food groups and food of the world. Cooking includes all sorts of goodies – pizzas, cookies, pasta, garlic bread and much more.

In September all Year 2 children are invited to become ‘budding chefs’! There are limited spaces so places are allocated on a strict ‘first come, first serve’ basis. Each child will get to attend for 5 weeks in groups of 6, and at the end a recipe pack and certificate is given out.

We have two KS2 Football Clubs running at Stoke Poges School.  Year 5/6 girls and boys train on Tuesday afternoons at 3.15pm to 4.15pm and Year 3/4 girls and boys train on Thursday afternoons at 3.15pm to 4.15pm.

We have two KS2 Netball Clubs running at Stoke Poges School in the Autumn and Spring terms.  Year 4 girls train on Monday afternoons at 3.15pm to 4.15pm and Year 5/6 girls train on Thursday afternoons at 3.15pm to 4.15pm.

Recorder Club (advanced)

For those who have some experience of playing the recorder, the Advanced Recorder Club is a great club to join.

The children already have a basic knowledge of how to play and read some notes and can follow a simple rhythm. We learn new prices together, playing along to a backing track.

The club meets on Wednesday lunchtimes and is open to Key Stage 2 children. It is run by Mrs Payne.

French Club
French club takes place every Thursday lunchtime and is available to Year 6 pupils to prepare them for Secondary school. We learn through songs and games. This term we have learned numbers and the days of the week through games and have also had a lot of fun learning one of the two most important verbs, the Avoir verb, through a song. Next term we will start to learn the Etre verb.
