Food and Drink in School
If children eat better, they feel better, play better and work better.
Universal Infant Free School Meals
Since September 2014, all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 state-funded schools in England have received free school meals. The aim is to improve academic attainment and save families money.
We offer hot meals to Foundation Stage & Key Stage 1 which are provided by Dolce and ordered through their online School Grid service. They are a family based business with a genuine interest in providing a good, honest and reliable service.
Dolce ensure that each school dinner has a fresh, home-made taste. Their menus deliver diversity and great nutrition. Vegetables are fresh and full of vitamins, and their meat is carefully selected to ensure high quality.
Please look at their website for the standards that they set and meet when providing a wholesome, balanced and well procured meal for schools:
Key Stage 2 can also purchase hot lunches via the Live Kitchen website - click here to logon.
Please remember to cancel your child's lunch if they are going to be absent from school for any reason. All school lunches ordered and not cancelled by 09.30am will be charged. If you have any problems using the Live Kitchen website, please contact the school office.
Part of our school funding is based on the number of children eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) and forms the basis of the Pupil Premium; we receive £1,300 for each eligible primary-aged pupil.
Children are eligible to receive free school meals if their parents are in receipt of any of the following benefits:
- Income Support
- Income-based Job Seekers’ Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The Guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit provided they are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190, as assessed by Her Majesty’s revenue and Customs
If you think you are entitled to a free school meal, please complete a registration form; copies are available from the school office.
Remember that every child in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 is entitled to receive a free school meal regardless of the outcomes from this registration form, but completion of the form may bring valuable funds into your child’s school.
If your child brings a packed lunch to school please do not include any snacks or items in the lunch box that contain nuts. Even a small amount in food items, such as Nutella chocolate spread or peanut butter can be fatal to those children in school who are allergic to nuts.
Snacks at Break
Foundation and KS1 pupils are provided with a piece of fruit or vegetable snack in the morning. KS2 may bring in a healthy snack for morning break.
Children in Foundation who are under 5 years of age are offered milk at break, but please feel free to provide water as an alternative.
All other children are encouraged to keep a named bottle of water in their classroom throughout the day.
